The Seattle statue was placed in 1962 in conjunction with the Seattle World's Fair Celebration.

The Leif Eriksson International Foundation (L.E.I.F.) has erected copies of this statue in Trondheim (1997), Qassiarsuk (2000), and Cleveland (2001).
